Biography

Md Kamrul Hasan Refat is a Ph.D. student in the Department of Chemical and Biochemical Engineering at the University of Iowa. His research focuses on microbial bioconversion contributing to advancements in sustainable biomanufacturing. Refat’s long-term goal is to apply principles of metabolic and synthetic biology to address challenges in sustainability, biomedicine, and human health. 

He earned his B.S. in Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering from Khulna University, where he conducted research on developing biomaterials from marine bio-waste and explored their potential applications in the pharmaceutical industry. At Iowa, he continues to explore novel avenues in microbial and bioprocess engineering to design efficient and sustainable biological systems for industrial and medical applications.
